Tánaiste's rejects claims her decisions are creating ‘latchkey kids’

The Tánaiste Joan Burton has denied that she is turning children under seven into “latchkey kids”.

Burton has said she sees women who are able to run a household and raise children as "heroes".

She was being questioned in the Dáil on plans to remove the One-Parent Family Payment from parents whose children reach the age of 7.

According to the Tánaiste the government is supporting single parents as they try to run a household.
