A man has been stabbed on the street in Dublin.

It happened at around 4.25pm yesterday afternoon at Carrickmines Retail Park in Sandyford when two men were involved in an altercation.

A 44-year-old man was stabbed and was taken by ambulance to St Vincents Hospital where he underwent surgery.

He is said to be currently in a stable condition.

The second man who fled the scene has been arrested by Gardaí in a follow-up operation in the early hours of this morning.

The 35-year-old man was arrested in the Kingscourt area of Co. Cavan and brought to Blackrock Garda Station where he is being held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
