Labour members gather for party conference

The Labour party National Conference gets underway in county Kerry later today.

Over 1,000 delegates, dignitaries and media representatives are expected to attend this weekend's event - which will take place in the INEC in Killarney.

Joan Burton will deliver the leader's address to the party faithful on Saturday evening.

Kerry Labour Senator, Marie Moloney, says it is an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming election.

She said: "It's a great opportunity for all the members to get together, a great social occasion, renew acquaintance where friends get together and have a chat.

"Also we can plan and develop party policies and plan ahead for the election coming up."
