Italian accused of landlord's murder sent to trial in his absence

An Italian man accused of murdering his landlord in Dublin will stand trial in December 2015.

Tom O'Gorman was stabbed to death at his home at Beech Park Avenue in Castleknock back in January.

The body of O'Gorman, a former journalist and researcher for the Iona Institute, was found inside his home in the early hours of January 12.

A post mortem revealed he'd been beaten and stabbed to death.

34-year-old Saverio Bellante was working with a pharmaceutical company at the time and had been living with Mr. O'Gorman for several months.

He was arrested and brought to court the following day charged with his murder.

The Palermo native was handed a book of evidence at the end of August and his case came before the Central Criminal Court this morning.

He did not appear in court himself this morning and December 14, 2015 was pencilled in for the start of his trial in his absence.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy was told it would take less than a week.
