A woman whose baby was one of those who died at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise is praising the Health Minister.
Leo Varadkar attended an emotional meeting last week with many families who had lost babies at the hospital.
Speaking after that meeting, Varadkar said he was personally "ashamed" at the treatment of grieving mothers there.
One of those was Kildare woman Janice Boland, whose daughter and first child – Caitlin - died in the hospital in 2006.
Speaking to Kfm, she said she felt the minister was honest and sincere in his words.
“He (Varadkar) smacked of that aura of (that) he was capable of doing this, but he just needed us to be a little patient. You felt that honesty and sincerity,” said Boland.
“The room filled with more people than you can possibly have imagined, they had to fetch more chairs. The scale of this monstrous scandal became very clear to myself and my husband and the elephant in the room was Portlaoise Hospital.”
