Limerick City Fire and Rescue was called last night after a man in his late 30s was seen entering the River Shannon at Sarsfield bridge.

Limerick City Fire and Rescue was called last night after a man in his late 30s was seen entering the River Shannon at Sarsfield bridge.

Thee units of the fire brigade were mobilised after the call came at around 10.15pm.

Rescuers located the man upon arrival. Two firefighters entered the water and stabilised the man.

The Fire Services’ new rescue boat was also launched and recovered the man from the water.

Paramedics who treated him on scene and he was brought to hospital.
