A French tourist has been airlifted to hospital after she suffered a fall on a cliff walk in Co Clare this afternoon.
The alarm was raised shortly before 2pm when the woman fell while walking with her family a short distance south of the Cliffs of Moher.
Volunteers from the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard had to trek across lands to reach the casualty. The area where the woman fell is not accessible by vehicles.
The woman, who suffered a fractured ankle, was stretchered back to the visitor centre at the cliffs where she was met by ambulance paramedics.
While medics were treating the woman they became increasingly concerned about her condition and requested a helicopter to airlift her to hospital.
The Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched to assist and transported the woman to University Hospital Galway for treatment.
