Baby investigation too sensitive to release details

Gardaí in Cork today said their investigation into the discovery of a newborn baby’s body in Cork was too sensitive to release details, according to The Evening Echo.

A post mortem examination on the newborn baby is due to take place at Cork University Hospital today.

Gardaí would not disclose the location of the discovery but it was brought to their attention after the mother of the baby, who is believed to be in her 20s, approached staff at Anglesea Street Station and reported that she had given birth to the child just days earlier.

Gardaí went to the address given by the woman where they discovered the body of the newborn. It is not known how the baby died.

The baby’s remains were removed to Cork University Hospital, where assistant state pathologist Margaret Bolster was due to carry out a postmortem examination today.

Gardaí are liaising with the Health Service Executive over the matter.
