The death has been announced of former economist, journalist and author Colm Rapple.

The Dublin man has died in hospital following a short illness.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has paid tribute to Mr Rapple, whom he said always advocated a "progressive and fair economic approach".

His funeral will take place on Tuesday morning in St Kevin's Church on Harrington Street in Dublin, at 11.30am.
