Dublin City Council's being urged to focus its funding on targeting the homelessness crisis and not on new infrastructure.

The authority had recently announced plans for a new pedestrian bridge crossing on the Liffey.

The project is expected to cost in the region of €12m.

Sinn Féin Cllr Chris Andrews says that money should be used elsewhere.

"I think any piece of infrastructure is very welcome and important, but I think at this stage it's about priorities, and we see that there are over 1,000 children in homeless accommodation and I think we have to prioritise families over pieces of infrastructure like a bridge," said Cllr Andrews.
