Dublin City Council urged to focus funds on homelessness, not bridges

Dublin City Council's being urged to focus its funding on targeting the homelessness crisis and not on new infrastructure.

The authority had recently announced plans for a new pedestrian bridge crossing on the Liffey.

The project is expected to cost in the region of €12m.

Sinn Féin Cllr Chris Andrews says that money should be used elsewhere.

"I think any piece of infrastructure is very welcome and important, but I think at this stage it's about priorities, and we see that there are over 1,000 children in homeless accommodation and I think we have to prioritise families over pieces of infrastructure like a bridge," said Cllr Andrews.
