Norwegian flight 7045 was en route from London Gatwick to Fort Lauderdale in Florida when it made a u-turn over the Atlantic.

The crew had requested that authorities meet the aircraft once it landed shortly after 6 o’clock.

A 28-year-old man was removed from the plane and has been taken to Shannon garda station for questioning.

The Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner jet was about an hour into it’s journey when the crew diverted.

The remaining 248 passengers and 14 crew are due to continue their journey at 8.30pm this evening.

The man is being questioning for being intoxicated and for allegedly engaging in threatening behaviour.

He is expected to appear in court in the morning.
