Gardaí have today charged a 42-year-old man in connection with a robbery at a shop in Cloontuskert, Co Roscommon.

Gardaí have today charged a 42-year-old man in connection with a robbery at a shop in Cloontuskert, Co Roscommon.

Gardaí in Roscommon received a report of a robbery, at approximately 8.10pm yesterday evening.

A man entered the shop, and threatened two members of staff with a knife and left in a grey car with a small amount of cash.

No injuries were reported and the scene was preserved for technical examination.

A grey car was observed by Gardaí close to Longford a short time later.

Gardaí successfully stopped this car and arrested the male driver, sole occupant.

He was detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The man has been charged and remains in Garda custody and is due to appear before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court this evening, Sunday July 5, 2015 at 7pm.

Gardaí recovered an amount of cash and a knife.
