A Polish man is due to appear in court in the morning in connection with the seizure of cannabis plants worth an estimated €115,000.

The man, in his 20s, was arrested when Gardai uncovered a massive cannabis grow house in Co Limerick.

Detectives and uniformed Gardai raided the house in Athlacca on Monday afternoon and discovered 136 cannabis plants growing inside.

"Heating and lighting equipment associated with the cultivation of cannabis plants was also seized" a source said.

Detectives, working on covert surveillance intelligence, obtained a court warrant to search the premises around 1pm yesterday.

One man arrested at the scene is being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, 1996, at Bruff Garda station and due in court in the morning.

Gardai secured an extension to the man's detention this afternoon to hold him for questioning for a further 24-hours.

A source said "further searches may transpire" as the investigation into the drug bust continues.
