Sinn Féin proposes to cap childcare costs at €180 per week

Sinn Féin is proposing to cap the cost of childcare at €180 per week per child.

The party has said this could save working families up to €4,500 a year.

Sinn Féin is also promising to invest €80m into training programmes for childcare workers.

Sinn Féin Deputy Leader and candidate for Dublin Central, Mary Lou McDonald, has said more state funding should be allocated to the childcare sector: “We also want to be sure that you get two free 48 week years, and that will help greatly in terms of the workers concerns.

“We also want to improve capitation rates because the state simply has to pay more to the sector to ensure that standards are right and to ensure that workers are treated correctly.”
