The Army Bomb Disposal Team have made safe an explosive device in Kildare this evening.

Families evacuated as viable explosive made safe in Kildare residential area

The Army Bomb Disposal Team have made safe an explosive device in Kildare this evening.

The device was found in a residential area near Townparks in Athy.

The area was cordoned off, local roads were closed and residents were evacuated from the area.

The team made the device safe before removing it to a secure location where it was confirmed to be viable.

Gardaí are investigating the incident.
