The 50-year-old was killed during a shooting at Bray boxing club on Tuesday.

Members of the Bray Wheelers Cycling club and Glencormac United formed a guard of honour as his remains were brought to the church in Kilmacanogue for his funeral.

A picture of his three granddaughters, a number 5 Glencormac United Jersey and a pair of boxing gloves were among the items brought to the altar to symbolise his life.

His son Gary says he was one of a kind.

He said: "Sport played a huge part in his life, it is where he made most of his closest friends starting in Glencormac United right through to cycling and all the ones in between.

My Da never sat still for a minute, he loved to keep busy and he did just that.

"He has left a huge void in our lives that will never be filled again."

Update 12.44pm: Funeral of Bobby Messett, man shot in Bray Boxing Club, takes place

The funeral is taking place in Wicklow of the innocent bystander shot dead at Bray Boxing Club this week.

50-year-old Bobby Messet was killed on Tuesday when a gunman entered the gym before his morning workout.

Another two men were hurt during the attack - one of them is Pete Taylor, the father of boxing champion Katie.

Ms Taylor issued a statement last night distancing herself from the shooting - she claims she has been estranged from her dad for three years.

She is also unhappy that her image is being used in media reports about the incident.

The funeral takes place this morning of Bobby Messett - who was killed during a shooting in Wicklow.

Olympic boxing champion Katie Taylor has offered her condolences to the 50-year-old's family - saying they did not deserve this heartache.

Bobby Messet was killed and two others seriously injured when a gunman opened fire at Bray Boxing Club early on Tuesday morning.

Today, his family and friends will gather in Wicklow to say their final goodbyes.

Last night, boxing champion Katie Taylor issued a statement offering her condolences to the Messett family - saying she can not imagine the sense of despair and injustice they must be dealing with.

She also says she is relieved her father and former coach Pete Taylor survived the attack - although admits she has had little contact with him in the last three years.

However, she has criticised being linked to the story and has moved to distance herself from Bray Boxing Club.
