A man found dead at his home this afternoon is believed to have collapsed and died after discovering intruders at the house.

The man, in his 50s, was discovered by Gardaí in the front drive of his house in Toomaline, on the outskirts of Doon.

Two men, believed to be members of the Travelling community, have been arrested in connection with the man's death and on suspicion of committing burglary at the house.

They are being questioned at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick City.

It is believed a gang were interrupted at the house by the owner before he died at the scene.

Gardaí received a tip off around 1.30pm this afternoon and went to the house and found the man's body lying on the ground outside his house.

The man's body is still at the scene.

His house has been sealed off and the detective unit from Henry Street Garda station have arrived at the house to conduct inquiries.

The Garda Technical Bureau has been requested and the office of the state pathologist has been notified.

Anyone with information or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Toomaline area this morning or this afternoon is asked to contact Bruff Garda station on 061382940.
