Mairia Cahill has been confirmed as Labour's candidate to contest the Seanad by-election.
She was proposed by party leader Joan Burton and seconded by the deputy leader Alan Kelly.
Cahill is the only candidate nominated by the Labour Party.
She will now automatically go forward for the by-election to the Industrial and Commercial panel.
This by-election was caused by the retirement of Senator Jimmy Harte.
