A popular Italian takeaway in Cork has been gutted by fire this evening.

A popular Italian takeaway in Cork has been gutted by fire this evening.

The blaze broke out in Taste of Italy pizzeria in Blackrock village at around 5.30pm.

Three units of Cork City fire brigade rushed to the scene and found the building well alight.

But luckily apartments overhead were empty at the time. There we no injuries.

The blaze was brought under control quickly but fire fighters are still at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will get underway in the morning.
