A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed several times in Dublin City centre this morning.

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed several times in Dublin city centre this morning.

The woman, who is in her 40s, was stabbed just before 8am this morning.

She suffered several stab wounds at the stairwell of the School Street flats and was rushed to St James' hospital, where her condition is described as critical but stable.

A man was arrested a short time after the attack and he was taken to Kevin Street Garda Station for questioning.

The scene has been sealed off to allow for a technical examination and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
