Recommendations 'key part' of inquiry says Chairman of Oireachtas Banking Inquiry

The Chairman of the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry Ciaran Lynch has said he wants to see the work of committee completed.

The banking inquiry is due to publish its final report in mid to late January, but it will collapse if an election is called first.

Ciaran Lynch is calling on the Taoiseach not to call a general election until next year in order to give the inquiry time to conclude.

Deputy Lynch says he wants the committee to be given enough time to finalise its work.

“The public hearings have taken place, we have dealt with about 130 witnesses, 50,000 documents have been secured, resulting in about half a million different pages.

“All this information and evidence must now be looked at upon which findings must then be drawn and ultimately and I think this is the key part of the inquiries work, recommendations will then be placed and presented with the report itself.”
