Psychiatric nurses 'very concerned' at suspension of new referrals in Waterford

The Psychiatric Nurses Association has said it is extremely concerned that the Waterford Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services has suspended taking new referrals.

The suspension of new referrals is due to the inability of the HSE to appoint a permanent consultant psychiatrist to the service.

The PNA said this had left families and children in the greater Waterford area in need of these services, in an unacceptable situation and distressed.

The Association said it was unacceptable to admit children to adult mental health services in Waterford.
