Protesters to end show-home takeover today

Some homeless families who took over a house in Hansfield, near Ongar in Dublin have promised to leave before the end of the day.

Up to 30 people, including Socialist TD Ruth Coppinger, took over the property during a public viewing on Saturday.

Hansfield Investments applied for an injunction to have them removed after they failed to comply with a court order to vacate the building.

Deputy Coppinger said they took over the house to highlight the need for social and affordable housing, but felt they had “carried this protest as far as they could".
