A Pakistani national who had been on the run in Ireland after he was convicted of a sex attack in the UK has consented to be surrendered to the authorities there.

Mian Shahid was arrested by gardaí at Dublin Airport on board a flight bound for Dubai on Monday night.

A European arrest warrant had been issued for the 22-year-old in April after he was convicted by Stafford Crown Court in his absence for a sexual assault, and sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Mr Shahid (pictured) asked that he be extradited as soon as possible.
