Stolen vehicle rammed garda van in Cork city centre before high-speed chase

A motorcycle Garda has been injured and a Garda van has been rammed in the course of a chase in Cork this morning.

Gardaí in the city spotted a van that had been stolen yesterday and which they believe was later used in a burglary in the Glanmire area.

The driver failed to stop when signalled to do so and gardaí gave chase.

In the course of the operation - involving over 20 officers - the stolen van rammed a Garda van on Merchant's Quay in the city centre, and later collided with a motorcycle Garda on the Mallow road before stopping.

One man was arrested at the scene, while another man, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, fled the scene on foot. It is understood a second man has now also been arrested.

The motorcycle Garda who was hit suffered non-life threatening injuries, and has been taken to Cork University Hospital by ambulance.
