Eamon Gilmore calls for statutory inquiry into ticket scandal
A former Tánaiste has said the Government should create a statutory inquiry into the controversy over tickets for the Olympic games.
Eamon Gilmore's calls come as Kevin Mallon is due before the courts in Rio tomorrow.
He was released from jail in the early hours of this morning after being arrested in connection with allegations of ticket touting.
Patrick Hickey remains in Bangu jail - he is expected to be released on bail later this week.
Both men deny allegations of wrongdoing.
Mr Gilmore says the complicated nature of the situation can't be avoided: "Shane Ross' approach to it has been very incremental, I mean the initial request was can I put someone in on the OCI inquiry and then he comes back and asks the AG and we have this non-statutory inquiry.
"Sometimes of course a non-statutory inquiry does lead to a statutory inquiry, but I think the issue has now developed to an extent that I think have the inquiry and get to the bottom of what happened here."
