Higgins: Message of mass non-payment of water bills spreading

Thousands have taken to the streets of Dublin city to bin their water bills.

Anti-water charge campaigners are calling for a mass boycott of people on paying the charge.

The demonstrators marched through the city centre to Leinster House this afternoon.

Socialist TD Joe Higgins says the message of non-payment is spreading through communities across the country.

He said: "Thousands of activists mainly have come out onto the streets from around the country and the main message from today is that people are going into their communities organising at local level for mass non-payment and mass boycott of the water charges.

"That is the key issue that will defeat the water charges; a mass boycott carried into every community and that's the message here today."
