Cork's Clarion Hotel on sale with €30m tag as €50m city-centre development gets green light

The four-star Clarion Hotel in Cork is going on the market today for more than €30m.

The 191-bedroom hotel opened in 2005 and has conference and leisure facilities. It has a waterfront position in the City Quarter development on Lapps Quay.

The sale comes as recent reviews show that the Cork hotel market has recorded five consecutive years of growth and is outperforming UK cities such as Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Glasgow.

Meanwhile, planners have given the green light for the €50m regeneration of the landmark former Capitol cinema site in the heart of the city.

The Irish Examiner reports today that up to 200 jobs will be created during construction.

Building could start before the end of the year and be completed within 12 to 15 months.

The 85,000 sq ft development will feature three floors of shops, which could employ up to 100 people, and two floors of high-spec offices across some 36,000sq ft, providing accommodation for up to 350 workers.
