Key witness in Hutch murder trial told her and her daughter's lives could be in danger, court hears

The Special Criminal Court has heard Gardaí told a key witness in the Gareth Hutch murder trial that her and her daughters’ lives could be in danger.

The State protected witness has spent the past two days giving evidence in the trial of three people accused of murdering Mr Hutch two years ago.

Jonathan Keogh of Gloucester Place, Dublin 1 is accused of being one of two gunmen who attacked Gareth Hutch outside his home in May 2016.

The 36-year-old nephew of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch died after being shot while getting into his car outside his flat in Dublin’s north inner city.

Jonathan’s sister Regina and a man called Thomas Fox of Rutland Court, Dublin 1 are also on trial for murder.

Mary McDonnell was living at the same complex as Mr. Hutch and Regina Keogh at the time.

Yesterday, she told the court Jonathan and another man used her flat to keep an eye on Mr. Hutch’s apartment and the car park below.

Today, she identified Mr. Keogh and his co-accused in CCTV footage harvested from the complex as part of the Garda investigation.

After she was taken in for questioning, the court heard she was told her life could be in danger.

One detective told her: “If Gareth Hutch is expendable then so are you”.

Her cross-examination will resume tomorrow.
