The blaze, which started at around 3:30am, destroyed the interior of a house at 23 Hollywood Estate, Blarney Road.

It is understood that nobody was injured in the incident.

The scene has been preserved pending a technical examination and Gardai are investigating the cause of the fire.

Separately, a man was injured in an assault last night in the city. It is as yet unclear if the assault and the fire are connected, but Gardai are understood to be investigating a possible link.
