AGSI to call for restoration of 2008 pay levels

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (ASGI) has said that it wants to see members' pay restored to 2008 levels.

The AGSI annual conference begins in Co Meath this afternoon, where the issue of pay will dominate proceedings.

The association said that gardaí have suffered 14% pay cuts across the board.

AGSI general-secretary John Redmond said: "It's not an increase in pay, it's the restoration of the cuts - and we're very clear about that" he said.

"And what's more is we don't expect to get 14% this year, but we do expect - having listened to Government and having listened to the Minister for Public Expenditure say that the country has recovered and is recovering rapidly - we want that to translate into a restoration of some portion of the pay that was cut from our members."
