A cyclist has been killed in a road accident in Co Tipperary.

A cyclist has been killed in a road accident in Co Tipperary.

A car and a bicycle collided at Lahinch on the main Borrisokane to Portumna Road at around 9.30am this morning and the 72-year-old male cyclist died at the scene.

His body has been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will be carried out later today.

The 51-year-old female driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was uninjured.

The road is closed for a forensic investigation and diversions are in place.

Gardai in Borrisokane are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 067 27101, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
