Enda Kenny says journalists are 'obsessed' with election date

The Taoiseach has again failed to damp down speculation about an early election.

It is despite comments from Joan Burton who says she's "not a quitter" and wants to see out the Government's full term.

The Tánaiste has said "absolutely no decision" has been made on an election date.

Ms Burton met with the Taoiseach to discuss the issue this morning as speculation mounts about the possibility of a November poll.

Joan Burton said she wants to stay the course.

She said: “The Taoiseach and I enjoy a very strong working relationship so there has been absolutely no decision in relation to any dates in respect of elections, other than we’ve been committed to completing the mandate and also at the moment preparing for what we hope will be an improving budget.”

She and Labour's deputy leader Alan Kelly have both said this afternoon they want to finish the work still ahead of them.

Despite this, leaving a function in Dublin this afternoon the Taoiseach was keeping tight-lipped and accused journalists of being "obsessed".
