A man and a woman have been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary and theft of a car in Balbriggan, Dublin yesterday. A garda was seriously injured in the same incident.

A man and a woman have been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary and theft of a car in Balbriggan, Dublin yesterday. A garda was seriously injured in the same incident.

The man and woman are both in their mid 20s and are due to appear before Dublin District Court tomorrow. They will stay in Garda custody until then.

They were arrested last night close to Balbriggan town and were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

During the incident a Garda suffered serious, non life-threatening injuries after he was struck by the stolen car. He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

Two other gardaí received minor injuries, with one requiring hospital treatment at Beaumont.

Two garda vehicles were also damaged during the incident.
