Gardaí step up presence in south Dublin

A spike in the number of burglaries in south Co Dublin has led to an increased Gardaí presence in the area.

Undercover officers, including armed police, are monitoring areas including Dalkey, Killiney, Ballybrack and Dun Laoghaire, as part of a national operation to crack down on crime gangs.

The system of surveillance involves mapping areas where burglaries are reported.

A garda spokesman has said that the deployment of resources is a matter for individual districts and is not based on socio economic factors.
