Unions and management to resume Irish Rail talks

Talks aimed at averting further strike action at Irish Rail will resume at the Labour Relations Commission today.

Unions and management met briefly over the weekend to outline where they stand, but discussions broke up after just three hours.

At the heart of the row are temporary pay cuts which management claim are necessary for survival.

Following last week's two-day stoppage, there are three more days earmarked for action - September 7, 8 and 21 - two of which coincide with the All-Ireland Hurling and Football Finals.
