Enda Kenny is briefing his Ministers on the implications of the Brexit vote for Ireland at Government buildings this morning.

An emergency meeting of the cabinet is underway - with both the Taoiseach and Minister for Foreign Affairs due to issue a public statement shortly.

Irish exports with Britain are getting much more expensive as the pound continues to slide on international money markets.

Former Justice Minister and border TD Dermot Ahern has described the result as an unmitigated disaster for Ireland: “I mean Ireland always had a great ally in Britain at the Brussels table.

“We will now lose that and be even more isolated when it comes to the negotiating table.”
