New documents presented at Anglo trial

The prosecution has handed over newly discovered documents to the defence in the trial of three former Anglo Irish Bank officials.

Retired company secretary, Bernard Daly of Collins Avenue West, Whitehall, Dublin; former Chief Operations Officer Tiarnan O'Mahoney of Glen Pines, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow; and Aoife Maguire with an address at South Circular Road, Kilmainham in Dublin are accused of hiding accounts connected with former bank chairman Sean FitzPatrick in an alleged tax evasion scheme.

Today was the eleventh day of the trial, but the jury was once again sent away.

Judge Patrick McCartan explained that the defence needed time to examine documents newly discovered by the prosecution.

The three former Anglo Irish Bank officials have pleaded not guilty to seven alleged offences dating from 2003 and 2004.

The three are accused of trying to delete references to two accounts n the name of John Peter O'Toole, a brother in law to Anglo Chairman Sean FitzPatrick, from Anglo's Core Banking System.

Anglo's former COO Tiarnan O'Mahoney, and Aoife Maguire deny attempting to delete six other accounts, connected to Mr FitzPatrick, from the same system.

Bernard Daly and Mr O'Mahoney also deny omitting John Peter O'Toole's name from a list provided to the Revenue Commissioners of people who held non-resident accounts.
