Hundreds expected at Collins commemoration today

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the 89th annual Michael Collins commemoration at Béal na mBláth in Co Cork later.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the 89th annual Michael Collins commemoration at Béal na mBláth in Co Cork later.

The ceremony will be held at 3pm this afternoon, on the spot where the Free State commander was ambushed and killed by anti-Treaty IRA forces in 1922.

The oration will be delivered by Dr Edward Walsh, founding president of the University of Limerick.
