Ireland's tech week begins today

From the world's biggest selfie to the Minister for Jobs receiving a fellowship, tech week is underway across Ireland.

Tech Week aims to recognise the achievements in the sector and encourage young people to consider taking technology related courses at third level.

There is a particular focus on schools as part of the week, and Mary Cleary of the Irish Computer Society said thousands would participate.

"About 120,000 people will be involved in tech week activities during the week," she said.

"It's really a celebration of everything to do with technology, and all of the great work and great advances that have taken place in Irish society.
