Actress Clelia bids Fair-well to ‘Dancing with the Stars’
In what was a Eurovision-themed Dancing with the Stars quarter-final, Johnny Ward was the celebrity who was singing the high notes as he not only got a maximum 30 points from the judges, but also won the ‘Eurothon’ dance-off.
“You soared like the superstar dancer you are,” said judge Julian Benson after his contemporary ballroom performance with professional partner Emily Barker. While Brian Redmond was captivated by the power and energy of the dance, Loraine Barry described it as a “production of art”. All three gave him 10 points.
At the other end of the scale, comedian Fred Cooke could not have helped but be deflated when Mr Redmond told him it was fitting this was the week of pancakes as his samba with Giulia Dotta was the flattest he had seen in a long time. Even though Ms Barry told Fred how much she admired his work ethic and the fact he gave it his best, the judges still only gave the comedian a mere 17 points, the lowest score of the night.
Not far ahead of him was Clelia Murphy’s waltz with Vitali Kozmin, at 19. Ms Barry pointed out a “little mistake” in the middle of the performance, and both she and Julian remarked on a lack of power. Mr Redmond admitted he feared she could be sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard at the end of the night.
Mairead Ronan and John Nolan’s paso doble proved just how much the former loves Eurovision, according to Mr Redmond, while Mr Benson praised its “attack, passion, power, and drive”. She scored 27.
Cliona Hagan and Robert Rowinski’s charleston left the judges impressed by their “characterisation”. However, they felt that there wasn’t quite enough actual charleston in the performance. Nonetheless, it picked up 25 points.
After their main performances, the celebrities and their partners had the distraction of the Eurothon where, one by one, they were eliminated while dancing to the Eurovision classic ‘Making Your Mind Up’ by Bucks Fizz. Johnny found himself the last man standing, winning that mini-competition.
Then it was down to the elimination proper. And as foretold by Brian, Clelia found herself in the bottom two alongside Fred. And once they had a second shot at their dances the judges chose the Fair City actress
to leave.
