Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy has released a new video for single 'Giants', which shows him running around the empty streets of Dublin at night.

It has been a particularity difficult time for the music industry during the pandemic as all live gigs have been cancelled and venues have been forced to close.

Speaking about the video, Dermot Kennedy said:

"It felt so special to be given this unique view of Dublin while it was at a standstill. This video represents the longing I feel for playing music for people and I want it to take you on a journey back to the way things were when we got to sing together."

The songwriter has had a meteoric rise over the past few years and really started to take off when it was one of his songs was included in the Spotify Discover Weekly after it was launched in early 2016.

He currently has over 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify and his song 'Power Over Me' has over 188 million streams on the platform.

In 2019 he made the BBC's Sound of 2019 Longlist and in January 2020, he was nominated for international male solo artist of the year at the BRIT Awards

With the success he has had abroad, he said the video is a tribute to where he grew up.

"Having spent the last few years travelling, often feeling very detached from home, this felt like the perfect way to reconnect with my roots.

"This video represents the longing I feel for playing music for people. I miss it so much, and I want this video to take you on a journey back to the way things were when we got to sing together. We will get there again," he said."

The video aptly ends with a shot of him outside the Olympia Theatre which was an important venue for him when he was starting out his career.
