1,500 nursing jobs to be filled

A massive recruitment drive is underway to fill hundreds of nursing jobs in Ireland.

The recruitment embargo has been lifted and the HSE is hoping to fill 1,500 jobs to include new graduates and nurses from overseas.

Stephen McLarnon is at the jobs expo in Dublin today.

He said the posts may attract nurses back home to Ireland.

“I think what is even better is that the likes of Canada, Australia and New Zealand they are not actively recruiting Irish nurses as much as they were,” Mr McLarnon said.

“So what it does is it actually creates a great opportunity to retain Irish nurses in the Irish market rather than what we have seen over the last four or five years where literally thousands have gone over seas to work in the UK as well as Australia, New Zealand and Canada.”
