NY court orders Microsoft to give up mails stored in Irish data centre
A court in New York has ordered Microsoft to hand over copies of emails it stores in a data centre in Ireland.
The court granted a warrant allowing federal prosecutors to seize the mails containing the customers of US-based customers.
Microsoft had opposed the warrant, arguing that American authorities had no right to order the release of material outside the US.
However the ruling will not take effect until a higher court has heard Microsoft's appeal.
