Pharmaceutical company MSD is set to create 240 new jobs in Ireland with an expansion of its newly acquired Dunboyne Biologics campus in Co Meath.

The company intends to build a new manufacturing facility on the campus that is expected to create an estimated 140 new jobs by 2025, with planning and design beginning immediately.

The facility's location beside the company’s existing plant aims to support collaboration between MSD’s research and manufacturing teams, with it hoped operations will commence in 2023.

The existing Dunboyne facility also expects to hire around 100 new employees within the coming year.

“This is an exciting new direction for MSD and will see our manufacturing and medical research colleagues working collaboratively and flexibly to speed up the process of bringing the medicines of tomorrow to the patients that need them as quickly as possible,” Executive Vice President at MSD, Sanat Chattopadhyay said.

These 240 new jobs are a really welcome boost for Meath

“By co-locating the new facility alongside our existing operations in Dunboyne, we can accelerate the commercialisation process, reduce lead times significantly and build the ideal environment for developing new technologies and talent.”

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Leo Varadkar has welcomed the announcement.

“This important investment will directly create 140 new jobs by 2025 and a further 100 will also be hired in the existing facility on the site over the coming year. These 240 new jobs are a really welcome boost for Meath [and] I wish MSD the very best with the project,” he said.

CEO of IDA Ireland, Martin Shanahan, said the new development showed “real commitment to, and confidence in Co Meath and the wider Mid-East Region, and in Ireland.”

MSD Ireland currently employs approximately 2,700 employees across six sites in Co Tipperary, Co Cork, Carlow, Co Meath and Dublin.
