450 jobs created at Deloitte consulting and Cork pharma firm
Some 450 jobs are being created with an expansion by accountancy and consultancy giant Deloitte and new research positions at a pharma firm.
One hundred positions are open immediately at Deloitte and another 300 staff are to be taken on over the next four years to support clients in banking, insurance, consumer business, pharmaceutical, energy, and the public sectors.
Elsewhere, APC’s new Microbiome Institute, which explores the importance of microbes in health and nutrition, is being officially opened in Cork with 50 new staff being hired.
Deloitte, which has offices in Dublin, Limerick and Cork, announced its huge jobs boost with Jobs Minister Richard Bruton.
Mr Bruton said: “Technology is at the very heart of our Action Plan for Jobs. It is altering the way virtually every job is done.
“It is changing business models and creating new openings for companies across every area of the economy and it is creating massive new opportunities for the Irish economy in new sectors like big data and financial technology.”
Brendan Jennings, Deloitte managing partner, said: “We have experienced considerable growth, with revenue growth of over 80% and a doubling of our team in the last five years.
“Companies, and the marketplaces in which they operate, are in a near-constant state of disruption and as a result there is a significant demand for the integrated approach, quality, and innovation advice which we can provide.”
Deloitte said it was aiming to grow it consulting team to almost 1,000 people over the next four years.
The company has almost 2,000 people in Ireland providing audit, tax, consulting, and corporate finance services to public and private clients.
