Shoppers are expected to have spent more than €4bn online by the time so-called Cyber Monday ends, according to analysts.

Black Friday led to an online surge as customers were inspired to bag bargains on the internet rather than head to the High Street.

Retail expert Alasdair Lennox has said shopping habits are changing: “A lot of malls in our shopping retail parks we actually saw fall down.

“So what it really points to is that most British people are actually at home, with a cup of tea in their slippers shopping online.

“That’s been the real key trend this year.”
